Once again I’ve completed a review of the latest episode. This week, its the Weeping Angels who make trouble in “The Time of Angels“
After my disappointment with “Victory of the Daleks”, I was eager to get to another story that I’ve really been looking forward to, and yet another written by Moffat. The Weeping Angels are back folks, and this time, its personal!
…
Okay, not really. I just threw in that last bit because I’ve been watching a lot of episodes from the Peter Davison and Colin Baker eras, and my mind was stuck in the1980′s and jumped into an 80′s action-movie advert groove. But hey, I’m better now!
Seriously though, the return of the Weeping Angels AND River Song in a new two-part story? Very, very promising. So, let’s get to that review!
You can read the rest right here, and once again, the standard SPOILER warning applies. But then when Professor River Song is involved, that’s always the case, no?

While I’m working on my review for “The Time of Angels” (cracking-good episode btw!), there are a few items I want to blog about briefly.
First off, it looks as if BBC One screwed up rather badly when they opted to slap an intrusive animated advert for Graham Norton’s “Over the Rainbow” post-WHO talent-show. Its seems that BBC one loses tons of folks once Doctor Who concludes, and evidently last week’s 2-million viewer drop when Who went off the air was too much for the network, and so they apparently cooked up this lack-brained answer to their woes. You’d have thought they’d have realized that such a move would NOT go over well, and should also have realized that it would not work. The overnights already seem to show yet another 2-million viewer drop.
Over 3000 people complained, as this news-entry from the Doctor Who News-Page revealed. It also prompted an amusingly-scathing open letter to the BBC over on Den-Of-Geek. Way to go, Auntie Beeb!
Now, with that out of the way…
David Uzumeri over at Comic Alliance has written a rather nice article that compares the venerable Doctor with comic-book superheroes, and its a really good read, so check it out.
Lastly, it seems that author Paul Cornell, who wrote several Doctor Who scripts and novels including “Human Nature“, which he would later adapt for series 3, will be the new writer for DC’s “Action Comics“:
I’m proud and honored to be taking on such a historic title. It’s particularly great to begin by featuring Lex Luthor, who’s always been one of my favourite characters. So many legendary creators have written this title in the past that I’m giddy and frankly terrified at the prospect of following in their footsteps.
You can read the entire story right here.
That’s it for now. Keep an eye out for my next review, which I should be posting later this evening.

In a neat bit of news, it seems as if we have a very special episode of the “Sarah Jane Adventure” in store this season. As this BBC Press-Release has revealed, and I’m pretty excited about it. Read on!

Sarah Jane Smith is reunited with another of The Doctor‘s former companions, Jo Grant (Katy Manning), in a new series of The Sarah Jane Adventures, set to air on CBBC this autumn. They’ll be joined by The Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith), in a special edition of the show penned by executive producer Russell T Davies.
The two episodes will see The Doctor and his two former time-travelling partners caught up in an alien-busting adventure that will entertain Doctor Who fans of all ages.
Elisabeth Sladen, who plays Sarah Jane comments: “It’s a fantastic script and I can’t wait to work with another Doctor and hope Matt has fun with us. I’ve known Katy for ages and I am delighted to be working with her. I last met her in LA but this time we will be in Cardiff. LA was good but Cardiff is better.”
Katy Manning, who recently returned to live in the UK again, adds: “Playing Jo Grant again is something I never really considered. I was gob-smacked when they told me and I am over the moon. What an incredible little treat. I come home and this is one of the first things that happens.”
Executive producer Nikki Wilson says: “We are absolutely thrilled to be introducing Sarah Jane and the gang to both The Eleventh Doctor and Jo Grant, and to have a script penned by Russell T Davies is the icing on the cake!
“Viewers are in for a real treat, with an action-packed story full of Russell’s usual wit and warmth, which takes the gang inside a secret base beneath Snowdon and introduces brand-new vulture aliens, the mysterious Shansheeth. All this, plus a trip to an alien planet – a first for The Sarah Jane Adventures.”
Featuring the usual mixture of thrills, laughs and scares, the fourth series promises fun with enemies old and new, including the terrors of the Nightmare Man and a dangerous journey back into history.
A galaxy of guest stars are lined up to appear in the series and include Laila Rouass (Primeval, Footballers Wives) and Cheryl Campbell (Pennies From Heaven), whilst David Bradley (Argus Filch in Harry Potter) will provide the voice of the Shansheeth.
The Sarah Jane Adventures is executive produced by Nikki Wilson and Russell T Davies and produced by Brian Minchin.
Writers on the fourth series include Phil Ford (also co-producer), Joseph Lidster, Rupert Laight, Gareth Roberts and Clayton Hickman. The Sarah Jane Adventures is a BBC Cymru Wales/Children’s BBC production.
In other news, there’s been a fair bit of press coverage concerning the debut of the new series of Doctor Who over here in the states on BBC America. On Saturday, Digital Journal covered the event with an article that’s definitely worth a read, and also contains some video as well. You can also check the official BBC America Doctor Who site for more video from the events, and photos as well.

WHEW! I’ve finally completed my review of the latest episode. I had to watch it a couple of times more to make sure I’d covered all the points I wanted to explore.
World War II is a great setting for a story, and its surprising that Doctor Who hasn’t used it more often than it has. Written by Mark Gatiss, who wrote 2005′s “The Unquiet Dead”, and 2006′s “The Idiot Lantern”, the previews for this episode looked very promising, and its a safe bet to say that this episode was a highly-anticipated one.
Even moreso than my past reviews, I must interject with a stern SPOILER warning, because I’m summarizing the entire plot below before getting down to the nitty-gritty.
You can read the rest right here, and due to the aforementioned extra-hefty spoilers this week, tread carefully if you haven’t seen the episode yet.

I’m still puttering away on my “Victory of the Daleks” review, so bear with me. I do tend to take my time with reviews, and I hope it shows in the finished product.

Hope this evening finds everyone doing well. As for me, its been a hectic week thus far, and I’m pretty wiped, which is why I haven’t yet added the screen-captures as yet from The Beast Below. I should have time to do that tomorrow, however, and I’ll announce it as soon as I’m done.
For now, I have come across an very interesting article, and one that to a degree I can truly relate to. I Was A Teenage Doctor Who Fan In America is a short tale of a fan who grew up here in the states, and was almost alone in his fandom. I had a few friends into it growing up, though not many, and so I was fairly fortunate. Still, I can relate to a lot of it, and its a good, quick read. Check it out!

I’ve just added a Multimedia Gallery to the site, and for my first offering, it contains captures from The Eleventh Hour. The displayed caps are small, 444×24, but the gallery also links to downloadable zip-files, containing the full-size captures.
The zips will be available for the next 2-3 weeks. Watch for the addition of a gallery for The Beast Below within the next 2 days.
Enjoy!

I’ve come across a few items of interest that I thought I’d share with everyone.
First off, I found that the BBC announcement of the upcoming Doctor Who adventure games also had some screen-shots, which are available for a look-see right here on the Doctor Who site. I’ll be sire to add those to that entry as well, but I suspected that those of you who had not seen the shots just might be interested. Looks pretty sharp!
Secondly, there’s a neat BBC Blog entry about the relaunch of the official Doctor Who site that preceded the start of the new season of the show. You can take a gander at that right here, and its an interesting little read.
Third, a new, official, TARDIS Handbook? Yes please. Gimmie!
Lastly, there’s another great review of “The Beast Below” at Kasterborous. I keep linking good reviews that mention things that I may have missed, either by design or by simple oversight. As such, feel free to give it a go.
Hope everyone has a great day!

Just watched the episode a couple of hours back, and so its review-time
So, thanks to “The Eleventh Hour” we’ve gotten all the key introductory items out of the way. We’ve met the new Doctor and his new companion, Amy Pond. We’ve met the “new” TARDIS, established that Amy is possibly running from her pending wedding, and that there’s a vague menace lurking in the background that is heralded by a “crack” in the universe.
Now can move onwards, with the focus more firmly on storytelling. So let’s see how it goes his time out, shall we?
You can read the rest of the review right here. And naturally it carries the standard spoiler-warning, so don’t say I didn’t warn you!
EDIT: You can read a very good review (I loved it, which is why I’m linking it) of the episode at scyfilove.com. And it carries an even stronger spoiler warning than mine does.
