About Me

While many people know me by my online handle “Corvus” (or some variant thereof…I have more than one incarnation you know), in real life, my given name is Randall, and I will soon reach my 40th year on this little blue planet. I’ve been married for almost 16 years, we have a daughter named Chelsea, a dog, a turtle, and 5 adopted children of the furry, feline persuasion. By trade I’m an illustrator, and could count myself among the ranks of other “starving” artists. My hobbies include Reading, comics, watching movies (my favorite film being The Crow), collecting Transformers, watching NBA basketball (Go Cavs!), playing City of Heroes, and quite a few other things here and there. I count forensics, zoology, astronomy, and psychology among my less-fannish interests. But TV-wise, I’m an avid fan of Buffy and Angel, Firefly, Supernatural, and – of course – Doctor Who.
Doctor Who came into my life in 1978, the first year it was broadcast in my area of the country. I was instantly hooked, and have remained so ever since. Already a child who loved science-fiction, the show broadened my mind in many ways, especially in the more creative sense. It also started a life-long love of British television in general. Tom Baker was, of course, the first Doctor that I became acquainted with, and Peter Davison would follow a few years later, Jon Pertwee soon afterward, and then the rest after that.
I was greatly saddened by its cancellation in 1989. My local public TV stations stopped carrying it at around the same time, and for several years I saw none of the shows that followed season 22 (Colin Baker’s first season as the Doctor) and none of Sylvester McCoy’s serials. Thanks to the release of the series on VHS, I finally got caught up some years later, but like so many fans I longed for the series to return, and without any new televised material my fandom waned.
The arrival of the “Doctor WHO” TV Movie to FOX made me a Whovian once again, and was the impetus for the creation of the first version of this website in 1996. Sure, the plot left something to be desired and though Phil Segal tried way too hard and included far too many fannish-nods to the past, the magic of Paul McGann’s performance made up for most of it. Unfortunately, the film didn’t go to series, which frustrated me a great deal. I turned to the Virgin New and Missing Adventure novels, and stayed with them as they transitioned to BBC books. These books, and the odd issue of Doctor Who Magazine would sustain my interest to a degree for the next few years, and those years would bring two new series, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel”, which I would come to regard almost as highly. Even so, the void was still there.
Then in 2004, after years of one rumor after another, came the official announcement that the show was returning. Was I there? You better believe it, and I couldn’t have been happier with what the revived series one brought with it. I waited until the entire series had ran in the UK before watching, and digested all 13 episodes in 2 days. I was hungry for more, and fortunately the Sci-Fi channel (SyFy now…don’t get me started there) would deliver, following up its series 1 broadcast with the announcement that series 2 would be airing as well. I’ve stuck with it ever since. Its a great time to be a Doctor Who fan. The series is back, and its popularity is almost staggering in the UK. Merchandise of all kinds is readily available, and original novels and audio adventures continue to be produced. If you need a Doctor Who fix and you don’t find something to satisfy you, then you simply aren’t trying.
And now, after 7 years of inactivity, with a new series and a new Doctor getting set to begin, I decided it was long-since past time to clear away the cobwebs and pull this old site out of mothballs. I truly hope that you, the readers, enjoy what I have created and hope to continue to create for some time to come. If you are new to the universe of Doctor Who, then I hope you have found useful info here. If you are a fan of old, I hope that I have entertained and informed you in some fashion, and I hope all of you will visit from time to time.
Until later, the vortex beckons me hence…
