Gods be damned, what is wrong with me?

Postby Rust » Tue Feb 06, 2007 9:40 pm

My family is great.
My friends are great.
I pay my bills on time.
I have food in my pantry.
I still have money left over to get the random knick-knack for myself.
I own a freakin HOUSE...

...so why can't I get out of this emotional funk that I'm absolutely pathetic and worthless? Is it because V-Day is coming up and for the 24th one in a row I'm without a girl to celebrate it with? Is it because even exercising, I just don't see why any girl would care about me? Is it my total social inepitude?

I dunno.

All I know is...right now. At this very moment. I am so very, very lonely.

The winter and the Valentine's Day really can take its toll even with you realizing it. Seriously, they should do something to outlaw the latter, it really causes ten times more problems than it brings joy into the world.

It may sound hollow, but it is true. These things can turn around in a single moment when you least expect. If it can happen to me it can happen to anyone. When you're alone for a very long time and do finally find someone it really does make you appreciate it all the more.

Until they dump you when they find somebody without so many problems. Or just to have a good time.

Welcome to a problem many of us face my friend.

Poor self image is a problem I suffer from too much.

Hell, all my friends know I do and they really try to help, but I definetely just competely ignore them. Hell, I've been offered to be set up a few times, and I said no, because some girl actually feeling attracted to me? Me? Impossible. Not ever going to happen.

I mean, I have no desireable qualities from my own perspective, so why bother? I mean, I'm going to fail, so why take the risk if I know the reward?

This mindset is exactly what I need to get out of, and what many people also need to get out of.

I still suffer from this mindset despite the fact that I know it's not healthy, and it's unargueably wrong.

So there's something that you need to remember: Don't believe your own cynicism, and be confident in yourself.

God dammit, I sound like a fucking kid's help phone ad.

I don't know if this help's, but my two cents at least.

Take it or leave it.

When you're feeling down, go up to a mirror, eye yourself knowingly, and say "Denny Crane." Seriously, it helps.

I think I have a reasonable self image, but all the socializing I do is over the internet so then again maybe I don't.

Getting rid of Valentine's Day is honestly an excellent idea. Doing so can only boost the overall happiness in a society.

I heard a suggestion last year that they should replace it with Van Halen-tine's Day instead. It'll never happen, but one can dream.

Fuck, man, I'd be all for that.

I mean seriously, even if you are in a happy relationship its forced and contrived and puts pressure on you to be be romantic and manufacture a special day.

I'm pretty sure its abolished in the Federation.

"Sweetest Day"? Are you shitting me? I've never heard of that before, and you can see Lake Ontario from a low bridge about 5 minutes from my house.

And it pressures young people to rush into sexual relationships so they won't feel less worthy of love than their peers who have someone to flaunt on Valentine's Day. And all too often those who do insist their single friends stroke their egos with "being happy FOR US."

Well, it's an excuse to drink for us single folk at the very least.

Right?

Right.

That's quite the leap.

It's perfectly possible to have a non-sexual intimate relationship.

ESPECIALLY if you're young.
