Halloween Classics

Okay, we're nearing that time of year again so I have to pose the question... what Halloween Classics must you watch every year. You know, those horror, scifi, and fantasy films that you just HAVE to watch during the month of October, lights off, candles lit, and thunderstorm crashing outside your window.

Let's narrow it down to 10 each... your own personal must watch list.

For me,

10) Pumpinhead
09) Alien
08) Ghostbusters
07) The Rocky Horror Picture Show
06) Gremlins 2: The New Batch
05) Critters 2
04) Hellraiser 2
03) The Gate
02) Spaced Invaders
01) The Thing (1982)

... some are goofy, some are horrifying, some are insane musicals... but for me, all will be watched this month. What's your list?

Not in favorite order:

Halloween (1978)
Halloween 2 (1981)
Halloween 3: Season of the Witch
The Thing (1982)
Escape from New York
The Others
The Crow
Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
Nightmare on Elm Street 3
E.T.

A heavy dose of Carpenter there. I would say E.T. is probably not an obvious choice, but given that the second act involves Halloween heavily, I have always seemed to watch it more in October than any other time of the year.

In No particular order

Halloween (old school)
Friday the 13th (old school)
Nightmare on Elm Street (old school)
Halloween 3: season of the witch
Army of Darkness
The Thing (80's)
Rocky Horror picture show
Ghostbusters
The Fog (old school)
Freddy Vs Jason

Honorable mention
Just about anything black and white on AMC during Halloween like House on Haunted Hill, 13 Ghosts, Dracula, Invisible man, Wolf man, the mummy those classics....and this may sound raciest but there were a series of Zombie movies with a black man that talked in the 30's 40's stereotypical speech like "laws yessir" and such and everytime he would see something frightening his eyes would get Huge, but I cant remember the names of the movies. they were zombidies from the olden days lol, oh and the 3 stooges gotta have the 3 stooges....Dammit I forgot Monster Squad....Dammit why do you guys make me list lists...i can never decide

Yeah, I have to admit to being a Black & White fan as well... not something I search out, but if it's on I'll watch any classic horror or scifi flick in B&W.

And the funniest thing about that racist zombie movie you mentioned is the fact that guy got paid to be in a movie just so he could ham it up. :( I bet he laughed all the way to the bank.

And yeah, I hear ya on the ET thing LL. That's pretty much why I chose Spaced Invaders.... besides being the flick that inspired Invader Zim, it also takes place on Halloween and features... and I quote... "A carnivoruthhh man eating DUCK!" Add in Royal Dano, one of my favorite character actors (he was also in Ghoulies 2, Killer Clowns from Outer Space, and House II: The Second Story... all of which are now added to my list... lol) and it's a must see Halloween flick.

... this is usually my preference year round but extra heavy around halloween i guess lol

the crow
pumpkin head
all the hellraisers in one sitting
13 ghosts
charlie brown halloween special ("i got a rock")
v for vendetta
halloween (classic and remake together)
the cabinet of dr caligari (black and white silent film FTW)
killer clowns from outerspace
rocky horror picture show

... but really it's not fair ... like 90% of my collection is "scary" or "supposed to be scary" or "just a damn good movie for that time of year" lol
Besides I find it frightening - to awaken and be unsure of everything you remember about life not being just part of a dream. Waking means I've slept, and sleep dissolves what certainty I have left.

Now on the TV front, my daughter and I watch loads of R.L. Stine's based TV series Goosebumps, as well as other series based on his stories. Yes, there is a good portion of them kind of hoaky, but there are some that are pretty effectively presented. We will watch a load of them the days leading up to Halloween and on Halloween. One in particular the story about the kid who craves ice cream sold only by a certain mobile ice cream vendor.
