I enjoyed it a lot. Matt Smith is going to be wonderful as the Doctor.

Saw this episode two nights ago and I'm loving this doctor. I missed out on most of Tennet's run, just couldn't find the time to watch I guess, so this is a fresh start for me. I really really loved how mad and insane he was to begin with then after he settled down, developed his own...twist to being the Doctor. Matt Smith definitly brought something very new the table and I for one love it. Also, forgive me if this has been brought up but the pinball effect to get to the nurse who worked in the Coma ward....is that a new power? If it is I love it.

Ironbite-I can't wait for more...and the Companion for this series is HOTNESS!

Nah, its just a look into how the Doctor doesn't miss much, presented in a novel way.

Glad you liked it :)

I liked it, but I didn't love it. There were points when he was copying David Tennant and I found that distracting. I heard that gets worse, but then it might just be because they filmed the episodes out of air order. I've only seen one episode so far since I'm waiting to watch until they air it here, so it's too soon for me to decide what I really think.

Yes, he acted like Tennant a lot in the opener because he was transitioning between Ten and his own Doctor, and that's something I covered in my review.

I can tell you straight-up, that it does not get worse, instead he is very clearly his own Doctor by "The Beast Below".

I've figured that out now about the Tennant impression. A lot of people are saying they still see it, but I don't understand how. I'm no longer seeing that.

That being said, I don't like him.

What, specifically, don't you like about him if I may ask?

He's certainly not as "intense" as Chris and David were, but speaking only for myself I don't consider that a terribly bad thing.

Personally I love him. I love the understated, somewhat elderly persona. Lovely change of pace!

Amusing, since I just described Matt Smith to a friend today as a "Hyperactive Grandparent". David Tennant told people he was over 900 years old....Matt Smith is the one I actually can buy being that age, despite his apparent youthfulness.

Course, dressing like a 50s Math Professor helps in that mental appearance.

I don't like temper tantrum Doctor and I don't like that he's always yelling at people to shut up.

I wouldn't exactly describe Tennant as quiet and tantrum-free. His arrogance and hostile attitude were very evident in "The Sontaran Stratagem"/"The Poison Sky", and "Midnight", and that's just off the top of my head. His actions in the former pretty much shot to pieces the respect that Colonel Mace had for him, to the point where Mace simply shut him out to a degree. And, his actions in the latter didn't help matters, and he ended up in more trouble than he would have been had he simply approached things a bit differently.

Plus, being techy goes along with the elderly persona. Hartnell's Doctor could get quite shouty and was often arrogant and impatient. Tom Baker's Doctor was also often arrogant and could get very snippy and prone to bouts of righteous anger. And one of my favorite Doctors, Colin Baker, is one of the most shouty Doctors ever. Eccleston's ninth was needlessly hostile towards Mickey Smith, and called humans "Stupid apes" or "stupid little people" on more than one occasion.

I've watched Smith quite closely, he's no more prone to denigrating the humans around him than any of the previous Doctors have been, and in some ways, less so. I'd much rather be told to shut up than be called a stupid ape.

You don't like Smith, and that's fine. But I think you're overstating his temper a bit.

It's not that because I agree with you about the arrogance. It's just part of the character. It's Smith's presentation of it that I don't like.

I don't want to post spoilers in this thread since people who haven't watched the most current episode might be reading it, but I guess it'll be ok to say this one thing here since it has nothing to do with plot.

I actually liked The Hungry Earth. If the trend started there continues, I'll be fine with Smith.

Rewatching this episode since I got Season 5 today.

There aren't any stars in the sky in the opening shots, not even the orbit shot. Holy crap, that's continuity!
