My thoughts on the whole reboot thing:

1) It is a shame that Detective Comics is getting its legs cut out from under it just short of reaching issue #900.

2) Jim Lee drawing JLA? Great....I always thought that book needed to be a quarterly instead of a monthly.

3) The book will focus on "interpersonal relationships" and the "human aspect behind the costumes." Sign me up. I'd much rather have them sitting around the conference table, unmasked, calling each other "Clark" and "Bruce" and exploring their feelings in a group therapy session rather than seeing an epic, widescreen caliber big adventure that's of such a grand scale that it requires DC's big guns to unite to thwart it.

4) The only way I am onboard this in any way is if they (a) undo the Clark Kent/Lois Lane marriage, (b) de-age Dick Grayson and make him Robin again, and Ted Kord is restored as Blue Beetle. These are non-negotiable.

This is actually not a terrible idea, even if it seems specifically designed to irritate fanboys.

DC's job is to sell as many comics as possible. This will certainly bring in new readers and goose sales at least in the short term, with the worst case scenario being going back to being the #2 biggest publisher.

I want more details though. People are assuming an awful lot of stuff that DC hasn't spelled out yet.

I don't really care about boots and collars. I want to know how far these reboots are going, and whether or not it's line wide or targeted on certain characters. Rebooting Wonder Woman or Superman is not the biggest deal since those characters have been creatively adrift for quite awhile, but chucking Morrison's Batman run or Johns' Green Lantern run would be worrisome.

I also worry about the possibility of de-aging characters like Dick Grayson and Wally West, and the potential complete disappearance of characters like Kyle Rayner or Tim Drake.

We just need more details.

I don't really care about boots and collars.

As an illustrator, I care about annoying costume design elements. But that said, that's just my shorthand for annoyance about the broader issues. The whole shebang annoys me. It reeks of the standard reboot ploys, just on a wider scale, and I have no doubt much of it will be undone within a couple of years.

Anyway, its just another decision by the big two that makes me glad I bowed out of comics near-completely a few years back: Marvel and its character assassinations, the gradual darkening of the DC universe followed by some hope and then a press of the reset button. Count me out.
