The official Green Lantern movie thread

Can Batman really breathe in space? Who would win in a battle between John Byrne and Erik Larsen? Love your Transformers? Are you just nuts for mint-on-card in general? This is the place to talk about it!

I was sad when they didn't play the third trailer before X-Men.

But the second trailer looked much better than Real Steel.

They played the GL trailer at my showing of First Class. Got a big cheer. Did my heart well.

Sorry, I can see why what I typed was misleading.

They played the trailer, but it was the second one, not the This is what the GL corps is trailer.

which is loads better.

Ah, I see what you mean.

Yeah, we just got the second trailer, which I like, but isn't as thrilling as the third one.

Green Lantern---specifically Hal Jordan---has been my favorite comic book character by a not small margin my entire life. I was even one of the early members of H.E.A.T. back in the wake of Emerald Twilight. I didn't care for the 'First Flight' animated feature. I want to see Green Lantern brought to the big screen the RIGHT way.

Is it wrong that I am avoiding all trailers, preview clips, etc...because I want my viewing of the final film to be as unbiased and untarnished as possible?

Mine too!

I was even one of the early members of H.E.A.T. back in the wake of Emerald Twilight.

They were a little crazy for my tastes (what with the death threats to Ron Marz and Kevin Dooley) but I agreed with their general sentiment,

I didn't care for the 'First Flight' animated feature.

First Flight was balls. It was a cheap Training Day knockoff that had very little to do with what makes Green Lantern cool.

I want to see Green Lantern brought to the big screen the RIGHT way. Is it wrong that I am avoiding all trailers, preview clips, etc...because I want my viewing of the final film to be as unbiased and untarnished as possible?

That's understandable. Just know that I, a Hal Jordan fanatic, am loving what I've seen so far.

The Green Lantern is my favourite DC character.

The real Green Lantern, though. Alan Scott.

Atrocitus is probably second.

They're ALL the "real" Green Lantern. Alan, Hal, John, Guy, Kyle, Kilowog, Tomar Re, Arisia, even fucking Ch'p.

Hal Jordan, however, is the most iconic version of the character. When the vast majority of people hear "Green Lantern," that's the guy they think of, for better or worse.

I tell you what, Lantern is not going to fail because nobody knew about it. Warners has ramped up the promotion wagon. Lantern is plastered on everything from cereal boxes, to fast food tie-ins, to Hal Jordan bandaids. They are going old-school 80's style saturation promoting. Even my wife noticed it and asked who is this Lantern guy and why the hell does every other product advertised have his mug on it? LOL.

No reviews up yet from print critics. It has been shown as there are a few reviews popping up over at IMDB. Here is a link to them. The second one seems to be more of an even keeled review. The first and last two are hyper positive and negative. The last two in particular are suspicious as they are very vague and have no detail. Any of us here having only seen the trailers could have written either of the reviews.

I'm honestly worried about the reviews, because let's be honest, Green Lantern is a pretty "out there" concept, even relative to other superheroes. I have this nagging feeling critics are going to write it off as silly or overly complicated.
