The official I SAW WATCHMEN! thread

Can Batman really breathe in space? Who would win in a battle between John Byrne and Erik Larsen? Love your Transformers? Are you just nuts for mint-on-card in general? This is the place to talk about it!

You have made a wise decision.

Right now Dusty is in a dark theatre after some blue penis action.

I never thought I'd say this in that context, but

I'm jealous.

It was difficult to describe... I've always read the graphic novel slowly, deliberately, soaking in every panel, every meticulous detail woven in. As a film, even a 2+ hour one, the audience obviously doesn't have that luxury. The film goes through as much important character backstory as it can, as quickly as it can. Can see how the average movie-goer would be overwhelmed, but can't speak for them. Can only speak as a reader. Was faithful. Honestly, more faithful than expected. PETA-unfriendly moments preserved in all their warm, bloody detail. Rorschach's dialogue not as sanitized as trailer might lead to believe. Whores and politicans and liberals and child pornographers, not just "the world". Changed ending was better executed than expected. Unified main plot with Jon's character arc neatly and effectively. Still, as die-hard fan of the novel, left wanting more. Possibly prefer director's cut?

Must remember to investigate further.

Nope.

They couldn't do it.

Jarring musical choices and overall a general lack of any sense as to what the tone of the movie was made it odd.

The over the top style carnage and blood, plus the unnecessarily long and graphic sex scene. The entire thing just sort of lacks a certain subtlety that the source material had, which really isn't Zak Snyder's style, so I'm not sure what I was expecting.

Plus, terrible, terrible, teeeeeeeeeerrrible nixon. Gaaaaaaaaaahh.

Overall, dissapointed that I was right and my stance is not changed on adaptations.

I thought it was quite the experience. Completely opposite of Maxx, I thought most of the soundtrack was solid with what was going on as well.

I really enjoyed it, the movie reall drew me in, I didn't even notice the length at all, which with longer movies is really a test in itself.

Indeed, my stance too is the exact opposite of the one Maxx has. Loved the film, the story was faithful in all the right ways and all the right places, and I loved the tweak to the climax of the film. Made superb sense, and adds to the tragedy.

I'll be seeing it again. Oh yes.

I remain...
