The Official -The Dark Knight Rises- thread!

Can Batman really breathe in space? Who would win in a battle between John Byrne and Erik Larsen? Love your Transformers? Are you just nuts for mint-on-card in general? This is the place to talk about it!

Geeks of Doom reports that Warner Brothers has decided to take their time and wait for Christopher Nolan to find the story that he likes for the next installment of the Batman series. To quote from the story:

Yes. The story is everything and we are very respectful of Chris. We have a wonderful relationship with him and we are going to be respectful of his timing and we want to get it right. Also, I think the fans expect that – they want us to make a terrific movie – we have to give them another great movie.

This is very refreshing, because I would expect WB to wanna push out the next one post haste and damn anyone that got in the way.

The Dark Knight has changed the rules in more than one way.

Suddenly quality is important. Can you fucking believe that?

Yeah I was really shocked at this. Time was, they'd show Nolan the door without a second thought if he wasn't producing fast enough.

I can approve of this.

Hurrray for now, but I wonder how long their patience will last. I'd say he's got a couple years at best before they start chomping at the bit.

I'm sure it won't take too long before a good story comes around.

Has Nolan ruled anything specific, out? Besides wanting to keep it based in reality?

I'll be happy to wait if it means more TDK calibre Batman movies.

Goyer has said no Catwoman and no Penguin.

Ah, okay.

So that line in TDK wasn't obvious foreshadowing, just a slight nod or innuendo.

One one hand I'm glad, Batman has a great rogue gallery and featuring the same ones as the previous movies would be a major disservice. On the other hand, I would have loved to see a proper Catwoman.

Which basically leaves the Riddler as the sole viable option.

Well him and the Mad Hatter but c'mon.

A Nolanverse Riddler would be cool, could really play the Great Detective angle.

I (unfortunately) haven't read Hush, but from what I've read (Batman Encyclopedia, wikipedia), it seems like they could possibly fit him into the 'verse.

Also could go back to Ra's and the League, introducing Talia.

Deadshot, but again, they'd have to work it so non fans could differentiate him from Bullseye.

And I'll admit it right now that I'm cheating and looking at wikipedia for this, as I cannot recall anything with this but Black Mask seems like he would fit in wonderfully with the deep mob underworld conflicts seen in the first two movies.
