Yes, I got that info the other day. I'll remain a paying customer and thus a VIP.

The free accounts are quite limited in several areas.

http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/freedo ... oices.html

Free players cannot join supergroups, they don't have in-game mail, the forums are read-only, and you only get 2 character-slots. Also, the use of the auction-houses are limited, and you have to purchase access to the Mission Architect, and Inventions.

The Free 2 Play model is a great choice for people wishing to try the game, or for extremely casual players. Many of those who pay 2 play, or paid in the past, would find the restrictions to be limiting. On the other hand, the Pay 2 Play crowd will get a lot of additional features that should make the game that much more interesting and fun.

i'm sure I'll get around to trying it eventually. but, an MMO is just such a huge time investment and time is precious right now.

MMOs are only as big a time investment as you make them really. With Champions and CoH, it really is easy to simply sit down and play a few missions and turn the game off.

This news interests me because I've actually never gotten up to Max Level in CoH. I'd be more then willing to hammer out that last run to 50 on Night Raider when it goes F2P.

My only question is the Archtype restrictions. How nerfed are those going to be?

Uncertain. Possibly less so than in Champions.
